Phillip has an extensive educational background. Straight from the beginning, Cochineas pursued qualifications that would allow him to succeed in his later business career. After enrolling at the University of New South Wales in 1995, Phillip studied business and earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1998. Two years later, he had earned his Bachelor of Laws degree. Cochineas graduated in 2000.
After relocating to the United Kingdom, Phillip studied at the London Business School. During his time in London, Cochineas was able to earn his Master of Business Administration despite simultaneously working with several UK-based businesses during this period. He graduated from the London Business School in 2006, having earned a number of degrees that would prove useful in his later ventures.
Even before relocating to the United Kingdom, Philip Cochineas had begun his business career by accepting the role of marketing director for an Australian eCommerce company. While studying in the United Kingdom, Cochineas served as Head of Strategy & Business Development for Screwfix. Towards the end of his degree program, he then started working as marketing director for another UK-based company called Bathstore.
In 2007, Cochineas returned to his home nation to become the Director of Palloys, a company with deep roots in Australia’s gold industry. Five years later, Palloys merged with ABC Refinery, forming a new company called Pallion Group. Phillip then became the new director of Pallion, accepting responsibility for a range of subsidiaries under the control of this holding company.
After the merger in 2012, Phillip Cochineas also became the Managing Director of ABC Refinery. Pallion is the largest precious metals services group in all of Australasia, and 20% of all mined gold in Australia is refined by ABC Refinery. By accepting a strong leadership role in both of these companies, Phillip became one of the most influential and important figures in Australia’s gold industry.
One of Phillip Cochineas’ responsibilities as a director for these companies is the development of a long-term vision and overall strategy for future growth. Over the years, it has become clear that Phillip has extremely ambitious plans for Pallion and ABC Refinery. In the modern era, both of these companies have become much more prominent players on the global scene, and they have also advanced in areas such as ethics, sustainability, and technology.
One of Phillip’s key priorities was to help ABC Refinery and Pallion earn a number of new accreditations. Over the years, these companies have earned seals of approval from globally-renowned organizations such as COMEX, SGE, and LBMA. With the reliability and quality assurance that comes with such accreditations, Pallion’s subsidiaries are now seen as a much more legitimate prospect within international markets. Further accreditations have come from organizations such as the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).
Phillip Cochineas’ vision for Pallion and its subsidiaries also places a significant emphasis on modernization. This has taken many forms, such as the development of acidless separation technology (ALS) and the creation of robotic barring facilities. Today, Pallion operates the world’s largest and most advanced ALS facilities and the world’s first completely robotic barring plant. These advances increase not only efficiency but also worker safety.
This non-profit organization strives to fairly represent all of the components of the nation’s gold industry, including prospectors, explorers, producers, and service providers. This role makes Phillip a leading figure not only within large corporate entities like ABC Refinery and Pallion, but also smaller companies that contribute in a meaningful way to this thriving industry.
The gold industry creates hundreds of thousands of jobs for Australians. This sector is an important part of not only the economic development of the nation, but also the strength of its communities. The Gold Industry Group recognizes this, and that’s why the organization also supports initiatives like free school programs, mental health resources, sports funding, and much more. In this way, Phillip Cochineas and the Gold Industry Group ensure that everyone profits from Australia’s gold sector – not just the people at the top of the corporate ladder.
